A background check service that sells detailed reports on individuals to the public. This guide covers the exact steps to remove your personal information, what documents they may request, and what to do if the removal fails.
BeenVerified is a background check service that compiles and sells detailed personal reports on individuals. Unlike traditional people-search sites, BeenVerified is specifically marketed as a background check tool, meaning it is commonly used by employers, landlords, and individuals to research others. Its reports include criminal records, court filings, financial history, and social media profiles , making it one of the more sensitive data brokers to have your information on.
BeenVerified aggregates data from public government records including court filings, criminal databases, property records, and voter registration rolls. They also purchase data from other commercial data brokers. Your information likely appeared because it exists in one or more of these public record sources. BeenVerified is particularly thorough at pulling criminal and financial records, which is why their reports can be more sensitive than standard people-search sites.
The opt-out process is free. Estimated time: 24 hours for removal to take effect after completing these steps.
Navigate directly to beenverified.com/app/optout/search. This is BeenVerified's official opt-out portal. You do not need to create an account or pay anything to access it.
Enter your first name, last name, and state. Click "Search." BeenVerified will display matching records. Look for the listing that matches your current information.
Find your record in the results and click the "Proceed to Opt Out" button next to it. If you see multiple records for yourself, you will need to opt out of each one separately.
BeenVerified will ask for your email address to send a verification link. Enter a valid email address you have access to.
Complete the CAPTCHA challenge and click "Send Verification Email."
Open the email from BeenVerified and click the confirmation link. This finalizes your opt-out request. Without this step, your data will not be removed.
Wait 24 hours, then search for your name on BeenVerified in a private browser. If your record still appears, check that you clicked the confirmation link correctly and re-submit if needed.
BeenVerified does not require a government ID for standard opt-out requests. The process only requires your email address for verification. If you receive an email from BeenVerified asking for an ID, do not respond , this is not part of their standard process.
If the standard opt-out process does not work, follow these escalation steps in order:
If you did not receive the confirmation email within 10 minutes, check your spam folder. Try re-submitting the opt-out request with a different email address (Gmail tends to work best).
If your record reappears after removal, re-submit the opt-out. BeenVerified refreshes its database regularly. Also check sister sites PeopleLooker (peoplelooker.com/optout) and NeighborWho (neighborwho.com/optout) as they share the same database.
If BeenVerified is unresponsive, email privacy@beenverified.com with the subject line "CCPA Deletion Request" and include your full name, state, and the URL of your record.
The manual opt-out above is free and straightforward for BeenVerified. However, BeenVerified operates sister sites (PeopleLooker, NeighborWho) that require separate opt-outs, and your data will still exist on 200+ other brokers.
OfflistMe covers BeenVerified and its sister sites along with 200+ other brokers in a single workflow. Rather than finding each broker's opt-out page yourself, OfflistMe surfaces the correct opt-out link or privacy email and pre-generates a properly worded removal request that you send directly from your own inbox. One-time payment, no recurring subscription.
