How to Delete Your Reddit Account and Data (2026)

Reddit account deletion is irreversible, but it does not automatically delete posts, comments, or messages you submitted. Reddit's current help page says the account-deletion process commences within 90 days, while its privacy policy says the profile is no longer visible and is disassociated from content that remains. Read Reddit's account-deletion instructions.

This guide separates four different actions: deleting the account, deleting individual public content, requesting a data copy, and changing advertising or account settings. They have different scopes. A Reddit request also cannot erase a copy that another person, search engine, or independent service already retained.

Last reviewed: August 25, 2026. Reddit can change interface labels and request routes; use the linked first-party pages as the final authority before acting.

Quick answer

To delete Reddit, open Account Settings, scroll to Advanced, choose Delete Account, enter the required details, acknowledge that deleted accounts are not recoverable, and confirm. Reddit says the account cannot be reactivated and the username becomes unavailable. Delete posts and comments separately first if you need their text removed; account deletion alone does not delete them.

What to do before deleting Reddit

1. Request a data copy if you need a record. Reddit's data-request instructions direct you to the data-request form while signed in.
2. Remove specific posts and comments. Reddit's account-deletion help page says account deletion does not delete posts or comments. Open each item through Reddit's own interface and delete anything that should not remain.
3. Review messages and other public content. Reddit's privacy policy treats public posts, comments, profile information, and some messages as content with different visibility and deletion implications. Check the relevant item before closing the account.
4. Cancel Reddit Premium separately if applicable. Reddit says deleting the account does not cancel a Premium subscription. Use the subscription provider's current cancellation route before deleting.
5. Review connected accounts and apps. Reddit's privacy policy describes separate settings for third-party app authorizations, Google or Apple sign-in, and other connected accounts.

Request a copy of your Reddit data

1. Open the official Reddit data-request form in a computer web browser.
2. Log in to the account whose data you want.
3. Follow the form instructions and select Submit.
4. Wait for Reddit's notification in your Reddit inbox or, in some circumstances, delivery to a verified account email.

Reddit says data preparation may take up to 30 days. The current help page also says that some information—including posts, comments, votes, recent IP addresses, account preferences, and authorized applications—can be accessed through the account without waiting for the export.

If you cannot access the account, Reddit's help page says you can email redditdatarequests@reddit.com from the email address used to verify the Reddit account. Reddit's privacy policy says requests are verified through account access or a verified email address and that additional information may be requested when necessary.

Delete individual Reddit posts and comments

Account deletion and content deletion are separate actions. Reddit's current account-deletion page explicitly says that deleting the account does not delete posts or comments. If the content itself should be removed, delete each post or comment before closing the account.

Use Reddit's own post or comment menu, choose Delete, and confirm. Keep a private record of URLs or dates only if you need to track your request; do not paste sensitive information into a public replacement comment. A third-party bulk tool is not required for this guide and can introduce credential, permission, or accidental-deletion risks.

Deleting content from Reddit does not prove that a quote, screenshot, search-engine cache, or independent archive has disappeared. Reddit's data-licensee guidance says commercial data licensees must stop displaying or using deleted public content, but that provider rule is not proof that every external copy has been removed.

Delete your Reddit account

1. Open Reddit and sign in.
2. Open Account Settings.

4. Select Delete Account.
5. Enter the required details.
6. Check the acknowledgement that deleted accounts are not recoverable.

Reddit's current support page says that accounts created with Google or Apple may require you to disconnect that authorization and create a Reddit password first. Follow the live prompt; do not share the password with a third party.

On iOS

2. Open the menu and tap Settings.
3. Scroll to Support.
4. Tap Delete account.
5. Follow the confirmation steps.

On Android

1. Tap your avatar.
2. Open the menu and tap Settings.
3. Select Account settings for [username].
4. Scroll to the end of the screen.
5. Tap Delete account and follow the confirmation steps.

If the account was created with a phone number and no password was set, Reddit's support page says it may send a six-digit confirmation code. The exact prompt can vary by account configuration.

Reddit deletion timelines

What remains after account deletion?

Reddit's current privacy policy says that after account deletion, the profile is no longer visible and is disassociated from content submitted under the account. It also says posts, comments, and messages submitted before deletion remain visible unless the specific content was deleted first.

Reddit's deleted-data explanation says deleted data is promptly made unavailable on the platform and subsequently deleted, unless it has a legal reason or legitimate business need to retain it longer. That is a provider policy boundary, not a promise that every record disappears at one instant.

Reddit is a public platform. Its privacy policy says public content may be visible in search engines, AI chatbot responses, or reshared by others. Account deletion cannot retract a screenshot, quotation, downloaded copy, or independent database record that is outside Reddit's systems.

Privacy requests and advertising controls

Reddit's July 1, 2026 privacy policy says all users can request a copy of personal data, account deletion, or information about Reddit's policies. It lists redditdatarequests@reddit.com for users who cannot submit a request through the normal mechanisms and dpo@reddit.com for data-protection contact.

The policy also describes controls for:

• Personalized advertising: use the Privacy section of User Settings on desktop or Account Settings in the mobile app.
• Cookies: use browser controls or Reddit's Cookie Preferences where available.
• Promotional communications: use the unsubscribe link or account email preferences; non-promotional account messages may still be sent.
• Linked services: review and revoke authorized apps, connected accounts, and social links in Reddit settings.

These controls are not substitutes for account deletion or individual-content deletion. Reddit also says it does not sell personal data to third parties, including data brokers; that statement should not be expanded into a claim that no information is shared for services, advertising, legal requirements, or user-directed actions.
