What Marketo is, and who handles the request
Marketo Engage is Adobe’s marketing-automation product, so a Marketo privacy request is usually an organization-controlled data request rather than a public people-search opt-out. Adobe’s current Privacy Policy says Adobe acts as a processor when it processes data for an enterprise customer; that customer remains the controller. Start by identifying which Adobe customer or organization holds the record.
How the Adobe Marketo privacy workflow works
- Step 1: Confirm the controller and scope. Ask the organization that sent the marketing message or collected the contact information whether Marketo is being used on its behalf. A marketing unsubscribe stops a communication preference; it is not automatically a Marketo access or deletion request.
- Step 2: Check whether the documented Marketo route applies. Adobe’s Marketo privacy-request documentation says the Privacy Service workflow applies to organizations onboarded to Adobe Identity Management or using an eligible connected Experience Cloud product.
- Step 3: Prepare the minimum request identifiers. The documented Marketo request requires the organization’s IMS Org ID and the data subject’s email address or other configured identifier. The request also identifies Marketo as the product, selects access or delete, and names the applicable regulation. Do not invent an IMS Org ID or send unrelated identity documents.
- Step 4: Use the correct Adobe channel. Adobe documents both the Privacy Service UI and API for access and delete requests. Its current Privacy Service overview says opt-out requests must use the API. The UI and API are organization workflows; they are not an anonymous public form for any Marketo-branded page.
- Step 5: Track the request and the controller response. Save the request ID, job ID, status, and the customer/controller’s written response when available. Adobe documents asynchronous status monitoring, but a successful response can also mean that no matching data was found; it is not by itself proof that every customer-controlled copy was deleted.
What to do if you do not have an IMS Org ID
Adobe’s Marketo documentation directs an organization administrator to contact gdprsupport@adobe.com when the organization’s IMS Org ID is unknown. That address is recorded as an organization-support contact, not as proof of a general consumer mailbox or an automatic deletion route. If Marketo is processing data for another company, send the privacy request to that company as controller as well.
Timing and evidence limits
| Question | Source-backed boundary |
|---|---|
| Marketo-specific SLA | No fixed SLA stated in the current Marketo documentation |
| Adobe Privacy Service timing | Adobe says asynchronous jobs may take minutes to weeks depending on the application and data |
| Request result | Keep request and job identifiers; success does not prove that a matching record existed |
| Customer-controlled copies | Require the controller’s own confirmation and separate verification |
OfflistMe can help prepare a browser-local draft for review. It does not submit an Adobe Privacy Service job, access an IMS organization, verify a controller’s mailbox, guarantee deletion, or monitor the provider.
The Faster Alternative: Browser-Generated Drafts
Instead of navigating complex forms and uploading your ID to verify your identity (which exposes you to more risk), you can send a formal privacy request via email.
